Lennartz goes green: 200% autonomous in terms of electrical energy
Written by dstoll
Wednesday, 18 June 2008

During the month of June 2008, the entire roof surface of the Lennartz factory building (which is quite spacious) will be equipped with a total of 584 thin-film solar panels. Peak power is 42.4 kW; expected annual outcome is around 42 MWh.

This picture taken on 2008-06-11; no panels mounted yet but mounting rails are now complete.

Our average yearly consumption is around 21 MWh, so the bottom line is - we're making about twice the amount of electrical energy that we consume. In the future, your seismometers will therefore be green all the way Smiley

Two rather bulky inverters are used to convert 1.4 kV DC to 230 V AC.

LE-xD seismometers: 2008 lineup with improvements
Written by dstoll
Wednesday, 19 March 2008

Starting in early 2008, all LE-xD seismometers are now equipped with a female Cannon KPT connector (10 contacts) on the lid. After the LE-3Dlite MkII, the 1D vertical version now has done away with the permanently attached cable terminated with a male connector.

Also, the LE-3D/5s and LE-3D/20s sensors are now both equipped with a handle. Shown here is the 5s version; the 20s version looks identical except for color which is off-white for the 20s as opposed to blue for the 5s.

Second training course for BMG Indonesia: November 2007
Written by dstoll
Wednesday, 16 January 2008

Just in time to encounter the (so far) only few days of snow and to endure the consequences of a three-day railway workers strike, a delegation from BMG Indonesia arrived in chilly Tübingen on November 11. The delegates received a three-day intense training course on the CT-EW1 Calibration Table.
